Zach Cregger Says the ‘Siren Head’ Movie Will Stand on Its Own

The upcoming Siren Head movie is being developed as more than a feature-length adaptation of an internet-born monster, according to Zach Cregger. In comments to Deadline, reported by Dread Central, Cregger said the project’s story is compelling on its own, regardless of the character’s meme origins. Cregger and Brian Duffield are collaborating on the film for Warner Bros., with Duffield set to direct. The pair are also co-writing the screenplay. Cregger described the story as “super cool” and said that the movie should stand independently rather than rely solely on the recognition surrounding Siren Head. Created by Canadian artist Trevor Henderson in 2018, Siren Head is depicted as a towering skeletal creature with two sirens in place of its head. The character spread widely online and inspired fan art, videos, games and an expanded mythology developed around the design. Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the project following a five-studio bidding war. Roy Lee and Andrew Childs of Vertigo Entertainment, Scott Glassgold of 12:01 Films, and Duffield through Jurassic Party Productions are producing. Henderson is attached as an executive producer. No plot details have been disclosed, and the film does not currently have a release date reported in the available material. Cregger’s comments offer an indication of the creative approach, but the story itself remains under wraps.
