New Resident Evil Clip Shows Zombies Falling From the Sky

Sony Pictures has released a three-minute clip from Resident Evil ahead of the film’s theatrical release on September 18. The footage expands on a sequence previously glimpsed in the trailer, in which zombies appear to fall from the sky. The scene follows Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, as he carries an organ transplant carrier down a road. A zombie screams from above before jumping toward him and exploding when it hits the ground. Bryan continues running as he discovers that the surrounding rooftops are filled with more undead figures. The zombies begin leaping from the buildings, striking the street and nearby cars as Bryan attempts to escape. When he reaches the end of the road, he turns back and sees that the creatures have all died. According to Dread Central’s description, the moment establishes an apparent rule of the film’s apocalypse while showing Bryan recognizing that the newly undead can be killed. The clip is part of a broader promotional push for Resident Evil. Dread Central reports that Sony has recently released images, vignettes, behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with director Zach Cregger. The campaign has also included screenings of 30 minutes of the film for audiences in Los Angeles, Dallas and New York, followed by a live Reddit AMA with Cregger. Dread Central characterizes the newly released footage as particularly graphic and fast-paced, contrasting it with the more restrained promotional clips studios often issue before a movie opens. The publication also reports that the clip provides additional context for the zombie sequence shown in the trailer. Resident Evil arrives in theaters on September 18.
