Horror Movie News Report

Cineverse will bring New Fears Eve to Blu-ray on September 15. Rue Morgue also shared an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip along with the release details and cover art for the Bloody Disgusting/Screambox presentation. Directed by P.J. Starks and Eric Huskisson from a screenplay by Starks, the film follows three best friends preparing for Hooper Industries’ annual New Year’s Eve party. Their plans turn deadly when a murderer known as The Doctor targets the gathering, leaving Owensboro covered in bodies as local police and the FBI attempt to track him. The film’s synopsis places Leslie, Brian, Moses, and their colleagues inside an inescapable building on December 31, where they must survive the killer’s attack before midnight. Jesse McDonald plays The Doctor, the masked villain at the center of the story. The cast also includes Lily-Claire Harvey, Turner Vaughn, Matthew Tichenor, Jay Woolston, Alyssa Rhoads, Sonya Delormier, Cody Webb, Felissa Rose, Dave Sheridan, Hannah Fierman, and Jeffrey Reddick. The Blu-ray will feature a widescreen transfer with 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio. Its bonus material includes featurettes on casting, the screenplay, the film’s production, working with Fierman, the creation of the killer, and the supporting cast. Additional extras cover the film’s kills, chase sequence, torture material, a scene identified as “Scene 58,” and the making of the New Fears Eve theme music video. The disc’s full bonus-feature lineup is titled “Choosing Victims: Finding the Perfect Cast,” “Clocking Out: Finding a Home for the Horror,” “Drafting Death: Scripting the Screams,” “Fier Factor: Working With Horror Icon Hannah Fierman,” “The Final Take: Surviving Scene 58,” “From Scrubs to Screams: Creating a Triage of Terror,” “Hippocratic Hurt: A PhD in Torture,” “Killdo: From Pleasure to Postmortem,” “New Year, New Fear: A Killer Creation,” “Silent But Deadly: Creating a New Slasher Icon,” “The Great Escape: Anatomy of a Chase Scene,” and “Warm Bodies: The Supporting Cast of New Fears Eve.” Tony Wash, Screambox’s director of programming and original content, said the service hopes the film can develop into a slasher franchise. The Blu-ray is available for pre-order through various online retailers.
