Horror Movie News Report

Little Spark Films has wrapped production on Bridgette Wrona and the Whisper Creek Murders, the first film from the Arlington-based studio. The YA mystery/gateway horror movie is now in post-production. Written by Preston Fassel and directed by Mary Beth McAndrews, the film centers on Bridgette Wrona, a twenty-something investigator who hosts the true-crime podcast Hot Coffee, Cold Cases. Her latest assignment takes her to Whisper Creek, a remote town in East Texas, after a dormant serial killer known as the Flower King apparently resurfaces. According to the film’s premise, Bridgette’s investigation is complicated by memories of her own rural past. As she searches for the truth, she finds herself in a community where everyone is considered a suspect. Amanda Huerta leads the cast as Bridgette. Kelli Maroney is also confirmed in a supporting role. McAndrews, who previously directed Bystanders, described the project in a press release as a film intended for viewers who feel creative, unconventional, and out of step with the world around them. She also expressed hope that teenagers will be encouraged to explore genre cinema through what she characterized as “gateway horror.” The film marks Little Spark Films’ debut feature and remains without a reported release date in the available information.
