Production is underway on Universal Pictures’ new The Mummy, with Brendan Fraser returning as adventurer Rick O’Connell. Dread Central reports that cameras began rolling on September 7, 2026, following comments Fraser made during the Deauville American Film Festival in France.
While attending the festival, where he received its Talent Award, Fraser said during an interview with CANAL+ that he needed to be at work Monday morning. According to the report, he was expected to travel from Deauville to Sky Studios in London, where at least part of the film’s production will take place.
The movie is being produced in the United Kingdom and will also film in Morocco, returning the franchise to a desert setting. Radio Silence filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing from a screenplay by David Coggeshall.
The project reunites Fraser with Rachel Weisz, who is returning as Evelyn O’Connell. John Hannah is also back as Evelyn’s brother, Jonathan Carnahan. Dread Central previously reported that Oded Fehr will reprise his role as Ardeth Bay, while Kevin J. O’Connor is returning as Beni.
Numan Acar has joined the cast in a role that is being kept secret. Michael Johnston was reported by Deadline this summer to be in early talks for a part, though his casting has not been officially confirmed.
Fraser and Weisz first appeared together in the franchise’s 1999 film, The Mummy. They reunited for The Mummy Returns in 2001, while Fraser later returned for 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which did not feature Weisz. The new film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on October 15, 2027.
