David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick to Direct Vincent Must Die Remake

David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is set to make his directorial debut with an American remake of Vincent Must Die, the French-Belgian thriller directed by Stéphan Castang. According to JoBlo Horror Movie News, citing Variety, Johnson-McGoldrick will write and direct the project for AR Content, Vertigo Entertainment, and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. The original film follows Vincent, an ordinary man who suddenly becomes the target of physical attacks from anyone who makes eye contact with him. Mathieu Naert, Dominique Baumard, and Castang wrote the 2023 movie, which stars Karim Leklou, Vimala Pons, and François Chattot. Vincent Must Die premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar. Variety described the film as a dark parable for a paranoid and persecuted era, while the movie received nominations for the Caméra d’Or at Cannes, best first film at the César Awards, and best actor for Leklou and best first film at the Lumière Awards. Johnson-McGoldrick is known as a screenwriter and producer whose listed credits include The Conjuring: Last Rites, Orphan, Aquaman, and Insidious: Out of the Further. The filmmaker said he quickly connected with the original film and was grateful to AR Content, Vertigo Entertainment, and Atomic Monster for the opportunity to develop his version. Alexander Rodnyansky will produce for AR Content alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment and Michael Clear for Blumhouse Atomic Monster. AR Content’s Michael Kupisk is also producing, while Stuart Manashil will executive produce. AR Content optioned the film from Goodfellas, which is also attached as an executive producer. Rodnyansky praised the original film and expressed confidence in Johnson-McGoldrick’s approach to the adaptation. Clear likewise said the companies were pleased to work with Johnson-McGoldrick and their partners on the remake. No casting information or release date has been announced for the new Vincent Must Die.
